FOUNDATION OVERVIEW

What is the Foundation

The I-66 Foundation was organized in August of 2004 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Foundation will work with its partner organization the I-66 Institute as the day-to-day advocate of the overall I-66 project. The Foundation and Institute will have offices at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset , Kentucky . This office location will enable the Foundation to work together with all of the community and economic development groups at the Center and allow us to utilize the technological and communications resources offered at the Center. More information on the Center and its resources is available at www.centertech.com I-66 is a huge project whose successful completion will require the help, support and teamwork of all of the states impacted by the interstate. Support is also needed from all of the communities, organizations and businesses that will realize economic development opportunities from I-66.

Foundation Goals

•  Serve as a resource center and central clearinghouse for collection and dissemination of information related to the road.
•  Educate the public on the positive impact of the Interstate Project to their area.
•  Coordinate local, state and federal efforts to ensure completion of the various projects.
•  Develop and maintain momentum for completion of I-66 as an interstate highway.

Activities

The Foundation is currently involved in the following activities
•  Collection and management of all available reports, studies, maps and other information related to I-66. This material can be made available to members and supporters of the project.
•  Production and distribution of a monthly newsletter America 's Main Street , News on the Road which will provide timely information to members and supporters.
•  Managing a website For the Road
•  Providing speakers to civic groups and other organizations
•  Organizing local support groups in communities along the route.
•  Linking the various congressional offices, state and district transportation offices, cities, counties and other governmental agencies that have an interest in I-66.
